Volunteering to Have Fun: the adventures of Nafiz and Tony
By: Tony Del Rio, with thanks to Community Living Toronto
On December 1st, Nafiz, Karla and I had a really great time at the Raptors game at the Air Canada Centre (ACC). We were selling 50/50 tickets to raise money for Best Buddies Canada. Once we got there, we were escorted to the employee’s lounge, where we met a lot of great people. We took a 20- minute training
session, and then we were off to sell tickets!
The patrons at the ACC were all very nice and friendly and we managed to sell a good amount of tickets for the draw. After the 2nd quarter, we got to have pizza and watch the rest of the game from the press box. On our way home, Nafiz spotted the Fan 590 live radio station with hosts Paul Jones and Eric Smith doing a broadcast. They let us come onto the set, and Nafiz got to put a pair of headphones on, as well as talk a little about the game. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience, and … the Raptors won!
The Adventures of Nicky and Wilson

What a blast! It was a great pleasure to meet my new friend Nicky at the Raptors 50/50 Draw. It was our first time meeting and we got along well immediately. We got to know each other during our time selling 50/50 draw tickets together, and I think that we make an excellent team. We raised a good sum of money to help bolster the important support services offered by Best Buddies Canada. After selling tickets for 3 quarters of the Raptors game, we kicked back and hung out to watch the final quarter of the game.
After such a great volunteer experience, Nicky and I have agreed to attend other volunteer events together in the very near future!!
