Celebrating an amazing year at Medieval Times

Think about this: the chapter started in 2009 with 7 matches, now there are 21 matches, with 42 participants in total and there are now students waiting to be paired with buddies! The chapter executive grew from one single executive member to four members/successors for next year. The chapter is now a recognized club through the student union, enabling it to receive support, funds and recognition for our buddy matches and students.
Through three fund-raising efforts, the chapter has raised $1,600!

To celebrate this success, the chapter decided to attend a show at Medieval Times in Toronto on Friday April 29th.

The chapter invited their friends at Community Living to join them, who graciously volunteered to carpool the buddies down from Brantford. After three months of planning, 31 members of thechapter attend, 16 buddies and 13 students and 2 representatives from Community Living Brant. They spent an evening together, celebrating the chapter's success while watching a show full of jousting, chivalry and horseback sport, with a full meal and great entertainment.

Everyone at Medieval Times was happy to see the group and was extremely accommodating to any special needs. The group was able to sit in the front 2-3 rows for the buddies with visual impairments. Everyone had a great time cheering for their Red Knight in battle, and all made is safely home afterward.

Any money leftover from the year was donated to Best Buddies Canada, under our chapter name, for continued support next year.

Chapter president Amy Griffith said “I think this night was a great way for our friends to celebrate a great year together, and to be proud of how far our chapter has come. All of our students work hard, and so do our buddies! Both students and buddies participated in all our fundraising efforts that funded our trip to Medieval Times. Even as I graduate this year, I can see that the passion and dedication for this program in Brantford has grown within my students and buddies alike, and though I am sad to leave my chapter and presidency behind, I know very strong, lasting friendships have been made, by students that I know, with the utmost confidence, will succeed.”
